Conflict Mitigation
Conflict Mitigation
SCIF has established itself as a vital partner in mitigating human-bear conflicts in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, the three states that are home to the Greater Yellowstone grizzly bear population.
We have forged strong partnerships with each state agency to collaborate on initiatives that yield the greatest impact.
Robo Bear
In Wyoming and Montana, the “Robo Bear” program teaches the importance of carrying bear spray and knowing how to use it.
This hands-on training immerses participants in high-pressure, time-sensitive scenarios that vividly highlight their current lack of proficiency in accessing and using bear spray. By experiencing these simulations, participants gain a better understanding of the need for practice, ensuring they are adequately prepared for a bear encounter—a situation where the right response can be a matter of life or death.
Grizzly Bear Education Trailer
Idaho Game and Fish and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks have received a brand-new Grizzly Bear Education trailers, purchased by SCIF to enhance their participation in community events.
This education trailers are key components of successful partnerships with SCIF, aimed at mitigating human-bear conflicts. One of the main priorities of the SCIF Conservation Department is to assist private landowners and communities in addressing the challenges of coexisting with grizzly bear populations.
