Donors are the driving force behind our mission, enabling the SCI Foundation to launch vital wildlife conservation, education, and humanitarian initiatives. Recently, we had the privilege of speaking with one of our dedicated supporters, Bryan Harlan. We asked him a series of questions regarding his background and motivations for supporting the SCI Foundation. Here are his responses.
Questions:
Who introduced you to hunting or was it a path of self-discovery? My father.
Why do you hunt? I hunt because my father hunted and because it promotes wildlife conservation. I also hunt because I love the adventure and chase of the species, but it is always the capture that is unimaginable and rewarding.
Who do you like to hunt with? Family and friends.
Who have you introduced to/mentored in hunting? Kids, youth, and women, every chance I get to take them fishing or hunting.
What does the term hunter/conservationist mean to you? It means that the hunter understands their role as a wildlife conservationist and is practicing methods that increase the number of species over time.
How did you get involved with SCIF? What keeps you involved? I wanted donate to SCI Foundation to fund their efforts. I am always trying to promote wildlife conservation in any way possible.
What do you see as SCI/SCIF’s primary roles in the community at large? Defend, educate, and promote legislation to defend our heritages of wildlife conservation and hunting.
When I bring up the idea of hunters giving back, what comes to mind? A hunter not only contributes cash in various ways to promote economics around their hunting but most also volunteer their time in many ways to promote wildlife conservation. Plus, just being a good steward to the land around is giving back.
What do you wish other people knew or understood about SCI Foundation? Just how important each dollar or hour donated is to preserve our heritage for future generations as the fight only increases as time expires.
Tell us why you would encourage others to become involved with SCI Foundation. As you look around and see less hunters, then you realize how important it is to educate and model for others to ensure future generations have the opportunity to live as sportsmen and sportswomen just like we were blessed.
