International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)

The SCI Foundation proudly holds membership in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the world’s largest environmental network and the leading authority on the conservation status of species.

This affiliation enhances the SCI Foundation’s credibility and capacity by connecting it with a global alliance of scientists and decision-makers dedicated to environmental sustainability.

Being recognized as a science-based organization by IUCN represents a significant milestone for SCI Foundation. It underscores our position as a leader in sustainable wildlife conservation and education. As an IUCN member, SCI Foundation gains the opportunity to collaborate with the international conservation community and disseminate our research findings on a broader scale. IUCN brings together the expertise and resources of over 1,300 organizations, including government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and business associations. This membership empowers SCI Foundation to forge new partnerships, broaden its global scientific network, and contribute to crucial discussions on sustainable use.

SCI Foundation has a rich history of collaboration with IUCN, notably by supporting the African Elephant Specialist Group in managing and expanding the elephant population survey database. Additionally, IUCN regularly participates in SCI Foundation’s annual African Wildlife Consultative Forum, an event that convenes governments, NGOs, and the private sector to address sustainable use issues and wildlife policy.
