The National Grizzly Bear Education Initiative

The National Grizzly Bear Education Initiative is a unique education program supported by the Hunter Legacy 100 Fund, Sables, First for Wildlife Endowment, Bear Trust International, and Montana’s Outdoor Legacy Foundation. This initiative aspires to secure a place on the landscape for grizzly bears into the future by creating a well-informed public.

The initiative provides a comprehensive exploration of grizzly bears, including covering crucial topics such as the species conservation history and successful recovery, grizzly bear management, reducing grizzly-human conflict, and the role of hunting in grizzly bear conservation.

Documentary Video

The initiative addresses these topics through the development of a one-hour documentary film featuring individuals who are directly affected by or engaged with issues related to grizzly bears.

Film appearances and contributing partners include:

  • Wyoming Game and Fish
  • Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks
  • People and Carnivores
  • Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Natural Resources Department
  • lnteragency Grizzly Bear Committee
  • Wyoming and Montana ranchers
  • Wyoming Outfitters and Guides Association

We wanted to produce a documentary to help the public understand what grizzly recovery looks like today—why it’s a conservation success worth celebrating, and why science-based management and informed communities are essential for ensuring a place on the landscape for this iconic species.”
