Where a Commitment to Conservation Led to an Unforgettable Family Experience
After decades of involvement with SCI at both the chapter and national level, Jeffrey Kimbell says his connection to the SCI Foundation began with a simple conversation. A friend and SCIF board member shared the mission, the impact, and the need to support conservation efforts around the world. That conversation inspired Jeffrey to step up and become a monthly donor.
What he didn’t expect was that his commitment to conservation would lead to the hunt—and family experience—of a lifetime.
From Giving Back to Gaining an Opportunity
Like all SCI Foundation monthly donors, Jeffrey was automatically entered into the Foundation’s bi-monthly hunt sweepstakes—an added benefit of supporting wildlife conservation worldwide.
After years of giving back, Jeffrey received an unexpected call: he had won.
The prize was a “full bag” hunt with Venator Safaris on New Zealand’s South Island. Familiar with the outfitter’s reputation, Jeffrey knew immediately this would be something special. But rather than experience it alone, he chose to make it even more meaningful—bringing his three children along to share the adventure.
A Family Adventure in New Zealand
What followed was far more than a hunt. It was a once-in-a-lifetime family experience set against the breathtaking landscapes of New Zealand.
Together, they immersed themselves in a variety of outdoor pursuits—combining hunting with duck hunting, jet boating, skiing, and fishing. Along the way, the children had the opportunity to participate in the hunt, harvesting fallow deer, Arapawa rams, red stag, and tahr.
More importantly, they created lasting memories together in the field—sharing time outdoors, learning together, and experiencing conservation firsthand.
“The hunt was excellent with Venator Safaris, the amenities were perfect, and it’s something we’ll absolutely do again,” Jeffrey shared.
Supporting What Works
For Jeffrey, the experience reinforced something he already believed deeply:
Jeffrey shares that the North American Model of Conservation is the most effective framework for wildlife conservation worldwide, and SCIF supports that mission globally through science, data, and human capital.
“No one else does what SCIF does at this scale,” he noted.
