By Matt McCauley, SCI Life Member and SCI Foundation Sweepstakes Winner
As an SCI Life Member, I’ve long supported the mission of SCI Foundation and its commitment to conservation, hunter advocacy, and protecting our hunting heritage. That’s one of the reasons I entered the Alberta Mule Deer Hunt Sweepstakes.
I loved the idea of supporting an organization I believe in while having the chance to experience a world-class hunt. Like most entrants, I knew someone would eventually win, but I never imagined it would be me.
That excitement turned into an unforgettable adventure in Alberta with Trust the Land Outfitters. From the moment I arrived, it was clear I was in good hands. Seth and his team operated a first-class outfitting business and worked hard to make every aspect of the hunt enjoyable.
One of the highlights of the trip was spending time with my guide, Grayson. He was professional, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to providing a quality hunting experience. His understanding of the area and the mule deer population was impressive, and his dedication never wavered throughout the hunt. Whether we were glassing new country or discussing the day’s plan, I could tell he genuinely cared about helping his clients succeed.
The hospitality was just as memorable as the hunting itself. After long days in the field, we looked forward to returning to camp and enjoying the incredible meals prepared by Grayson’s wife. She is an outstanding cook, and together they made everyone feel like family rather than guests.
While harvesting a beautiful Alberta mule deer was certainly a special moment, what I’ll remember most is the complete experience. Alberta’s breathtaking landscapes, abundant wildlife, time spent in camp, and the friendships formed during the hunt are memories I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.
For anyone considering entering an SCI Foundation sweepstakes, my advice is simple: enter. Not only do these sweepstakes provide an opportunity to experience incredible adventures, but they also help support meaningful conservation efforts. You never know when your name might be drawn, and the experience could become one of the most memorable hunts of your life.
The entire trip exceeded my expectations. While harvesting a great Alberta mule deer was certainly a highlight, what I’ll remember most are the people, the friendships, and the experience itself. From the professionalism of Seth and the team at Trust the Land Outfitters to the dedication of my guide, Grayson, and the incredible hospitality provided by his family, every aspect of the hunt was first class.
As an SCI Life Member, it was especially meaningful to take part in an opportunity made possible through an organization whose mission I deeply support. SCI Foundation’s
commitment to conservation, education, and protecting our hunting heritage helps ensure that future generations can enjoy the same opportunities and experiences that we value today.
I’m grateful to SCI Foundation, Trust the Land Outfitters, Grayson, and everyone involved for creating memories that will last a lifetime. This hunt was about far more than harvesting a great mule deer. It was about experiencing the beauty of Alberta, sharing time with exceptional people, and being reminded why conservation and our hunting traditions matter. It is an experience I will never forget and one that I will always be proud to have been a part of.
