Dr. Gerald L. Warnock Awarded Prestigious Beretta and SCI Foundation Conservation Leadership Award

Born in 1934 in Portland, Oregon. Educated in public schools, Reed College, and U of Oregon med school. I married Margaret a week before graduation and interned at Tripler U.S. Army hospital followed by a 2-year tour of duty. Then a residency in Radiology followed by a 60-year career in medical imaging. I founded EPIC IMAGING CENTERS and introduced outpatient CT and MRI, scanning, digital mammography, and other innovations to the community. We raised two successful daughters who produced 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and counting. My passions are hunting and fishing. I joined SCI in 1972 and it’s been a great ride. I have been blessed to be able to pursue God’s creatures over the years around the world. When not hunting and weather permitting, I skipper my power catamaran over the Columbia River bar and fish the ocean. My wife of 65 years, Margaret, passed away in September 2023 and I miss her terribly as she accompanied me on the vast majority of my hunts.

Dennis  and Leean Anderson Awarded Prestigious Beretta and SCI Foundation Conservation Leadership Award

Dennis Anderson and his wife Leean have been married 54 years and have 5 children, 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Dennis established Anderson Seafoods Inc. in 1979. The company has become a predominant seafood processor, packaging and distributor operating in Southern California.

Dennis began hunting as a teenager without any family mentors. He felt like it was “in the blood.” Joining SCI in the late 80’s, he was exposed to the concept of conservation. His involvement in the local SCI Chapter led to Mission Projects, including Conservation, Education and Humanitarian efforts. It wasn’t just about donating money, but that the volunteer effort to the general public on the value of conservation as it relates to wildlife longevity and availability. The Youth Safari Day Event established with his leadership in So Cal successfully involved thousands of youths, each year, in the outdoors through activities and events. This event engaged our youth in all the missions of conservation, education, and humanitarian efforts. Having served as the SCI California Legislative Coordinator for 25 years, he collaborated with legislators regarding wildlife conservation issues.

Dennis has hunted all over the globe. He earned the SCI World Conservation and Hunting Award. Mary CabellaMary Cabela Awarded Prestigious Beretta and SCI Foundation Conservation Leadership Award

Mary Cabela was born in Wyoming where small-game hunting with her brother provided the foundation of her passion for the outdoors. Nearby plains, mountains, and rivers blessed her with endless adventures. She attended high school in Sidney, Nebraska where she met the love of her life, Dick Cabela. Together, they explored the plains of Nebraska. Together, they raised nine children. Together, they founded one of the world’s best known outdoor companies. Together, they hunted the world. They shared a passion for God, family, and wild places. Those passions defined their lives and became one continuous adventure so interconnected they could not tell where one began or one ended. They understood God in their family, their family in the outdoors, and the outdoors in God.

Nearly all Mary’s efforts, time, and treasure have been given in one form or another to God, her family, and the outdoors. Love requires action and by simply taking her children and grandchildren hunting, she passed on the seeds for tomorrow’s conservationists. But because of her love, she did so much more as she continued to hunt, to give, to serve and to share her passions for conservation with others. Throughout her life, Mary was a strong supporter of many conservation organizations and initiatives. Her most recent focus was the transformation of The Cabela Family Foundation into one of the world’s foremost conservation foundations specializing in highly impactful projects that promise long-term sustainability.

Bold initiatives such as 24 Lions and 12 Cheetahs promise to restore and sustain large predators to wild areas where they once thrived, thus helping to ensure these iconic species always inhabit natural, wild landscapes.
