While on safari with Gamka Safaris just outside of Port Elizabeth, South Africa with owner Ken Whiley serving as PH and host, Kurt and Karla Walbeck of Fall Creek, WI and Mike and Erin Gate of Nestor Falls, Ontario, Canada and the team from Outdoor Bound TV generously took the time to give back to locals in need through SCI Foundation’s SafariCare Blue Bag program.
The two couples took the supplies and materials collected through the Nestor Falls Schools to the DE HOOP H.P. School where they were shared with the children. “Our local school, Nestor Falls School, is only a population of about 25 children, so we didn’t expect a whole lot,” said Erin Gate. “But, we ended up with over 100 pounds of donations.” The donation included clothing, books, toys, shoes, toothbrushes and toothpaste and much more. The children were at the school were grateful to receive the gifts and were very excited to see pictures of their Nestor Falls counterparts which Erin shared with them from her phone.
The hunt was purchased at the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of SCI’s Annual Banquet and Live Auction in Green Bay, WI in 2017. It was the first trip to Africa for the couples. The primary animals hunted were Kudu, Impala and Gemsbuck. The group also spent 5 days sightseeing in Cape Town, South Africa with Vineyard trips, shopping, swimming with the Great White Sharks and a visit to Table Mountain also on the agenda.
