Mossy Oak Continues to Help the American Wilderness Leadership School Educate Tomorrow’s Conservationists, Humanitarians, and Hunters

Mossy Oak, one of the world’s most popular camouflage companies, will once again sponsor SCI Foundation’s professional development course for teachers at the American Wilderness Leadership School in Jackson, Wyoming.

Last year, their sponsorship provided full tuition to recipient educators for the hands-on, intensive eight-day summer session as-well-as an additional stipend to help with travel and other incidental expenses. Mossy Oak also generously provided Mossy Oak hats, lanyards, note writing pads, pens, decals, and a small backpack to each participant at all of the AWLS sessions, along with Mossy Oak apparel shirts to all of the AWLS staff.

Amongst our first session attendees last summer were Lucy McKellar, a teacher from Mississippi, and Allison Carter, a marketing professional from Mossy Oak. Allison was able to follow Lucy throughout the session taking video and blogging about their experiences. Lucy had a great experience. The exposure the blogs and video provided was highly successful at bringing awareness of the AWLS program to a new audience, Mossy Oak followers.

Each year, the AWLS program offers 240 teachers from around the United States and Canada college-level courses in “conservation” and, more specifically, the North American Model of Wildlife Management. The programs include courses in stream ecology, riparian ecology, human impacts on wildlife habitat, introduction to shooting sports, and instructor certification for the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). The program also helps educators better integrate the concepts with science, math, social studies, and language arts that can be taught both inside and outside of the classroom.

SCI Foundation is proud to partner with Mossy Oak and greatly appreciates their continuing support of the American Wilderness Leadership School and its hands-on educator’s programs.
